Animal experimentation must only be performed when considered absolutely necessary and all work must conform to the highest ethical standards.

By supporting education and training in laboratory animal science and welfare, where Reduction, Refinement and Replacement (the 3Rs) are the central focus, the 3Rs will become a key part of research, leading to reduced numbers of animals being used and improvements in animal welfare, as well as better scientific results.
